When you’re over 65, social media isn’t just a way to stay connected; it’s an Olympic sport. The stakes are high, the buttons are confusing, and every click feels like it could set off fireworks (or at least a virus warning).

 

By now, most of us have a Smart Phone. And nothing is scarier than a senior with a new phone and no teenage grandchild to help us navigate. Take posting a grocery list, for example. You thought you were adding “eggs, prune juice, Metamucil” to your Notes app, but nope—it’s now your Facebook status. By the time you realize your mistake, it already has 47 likes, 12 comments, and a recipe for a “prune-egg casserole” from your neighbor Clarice.

 

Then there’s the “LOL” problem. For you, it means Lots of Love. For everyone else, it means you’re cracking up (Laughing Out Loud). Which is how you end up commenting “LOL” on someone’s funeral announcement and spend the next three days explaining yourself.

 

Private messages? A gamble. You might think you’re telling your granddaughter privately about your sore feet. Instead, the entire church group now knows your left foot is “angrier than a wet hen.” Bless their hearts, they sent prayers.

 

And don’t even get me started on tags. One wrong click and suddenly you’re congratulating Pastor Kiefer on winning the spelling bee.

 

But honestly? That’s the charm of it all. Sure, you might accidentally share an inspirational quote that turns out to be about tequila shots. Or you might type “Can you freeze cottage cheese???” into the status bar instead of Google. But the best part is, everyone loves you for it. You’re not just surviving social media—you’re making it way more entertaining.

 

So go ahead and hit ‘post.’ Even if it’s the wrong button, at least you’ll give the internet a good laugh—and that’s better than any filter.
